Bali Hai Golf Club - Holes #4 and #3

Getting To Know: Bali Hai Golf Club

An Insightful Interview With Jason Davis, Head Pro

By Brian Weis

Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Jason Davis who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.

Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property
Designed by Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley in 2000, the Bali Hai Golf Club is a worthy namesake of the famous Indonesian land of enchantment. The lush surroundings include seven-acres of opulent water features, a total of 4,000 trees with 2,500 stands of towering palms and 100,000 Balinese tropical plants. Transition and out-of-play areas are accented with Augusta white sand and black volcanic rock outcroppings.

If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course?
The par-71 course measures 7,002 yards from the tips and affords spectacular views of the Strip mega-resorts from the fairways. Bali Hai's unique layout includes teasers like #16, a par-3 island green that frequently comes with an audience from the Cili Restaurant patio and #3, a 468 yard par-4 with a creek running the entire right-side, balanced with a bunker on the left. Play #3 and find out why it's called "Shipwreck." Challenging play, breathtaking scenery and first class facilities make Bali Hai a one-of-a-kind golfer's paradise that Golf Digest named one of the "Top 50 Resort Courses".

The course was designed to go in like a lamb and out like a lion, meaning that the drama and thrills build as player progress along the course.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course?
Taking a caddie will save you some strokes. They will give you great lines to attach greens. Once on the greens they will give you good reads to convert on your birdie/par putts.

Our greens are slick. Stay below the hole.

What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole?
Hole #16 is an island green par 3. The hole is short and tricky. You cannot miss in any direction. If you are too long, short, left or right you will wet. Determine the pin placement and hit the shot to get to the right shelve. If the hole is upfront you have a little backstop. If it is deep right, play for the middle of the green. A 3 here is a great score.

What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It?
Wow, we got a great collection of holes here. I like hole #3. A tough par 4 with a creek along the right side. Takes two well struck shots. My favorite though is the finish hole. The Las Vegas strip frames in the hole. It is a Kodak Moment for sure! The approach shot is over water to a narrow green. I think it is my favorite hole in Sin City.

Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole?
You cannot go wrong with the french dip. We have some great sandwiches. If you need to start your round with breakfast, we have an outstanding breakfast burrito.

All of his life, Brian has been around the game of golf. As a youngster, Brian competed at all levels in junior and high school golf. Brian had a zero chance for a college golf scholarship, so he worked on the grounds crew at West Bend Country Club to pay for his University of Wisconsin education. In his adult years, his passion for the game collided with his entrepreneurial spirit and in 2004 launched GolfWisconsin.com. In 2007, the idea for a network of local golf directory sites formed and GolfTrips.com was born. Today, the network consists of a site in all 50 states supported by national sites like GolfTrips.com, GolfGuide.com and GolfPackages.com. It is an understatement to say, Brian is passionate about promoting golf and golf travel on a local, regional, national and international level.

On the golf course, Brian is known as a fierce weekend warrior that fluctuates between a 5-9 handicap. With a soft fade, known as "The Weis Slice", and booming 300+ drives, he can blast it out of bounds with the best of them.
