New For Fall 2016 - FootJoy Golf Shoes

Two New Models That Offer Style and Comfort

By David Theoret

For many golfers in the US, it's getting rather late in the 2016 golf season. But that doesn't stop FootJoy from unveiling high quality and attractive golf shoes. Maybe they enjoy catering to those of us in the southern states. Nevertheless, here is our take on a couple of new styles: The Pro/SL and the Versaluxe.

Pro SL Golf Shoes - Preferred by Tour Professionals

FootJoy's new Pro/SL Golf shoes have only been available to the public for a little over a month, but they're already a big hit on Tour. PGA Tour players such as Adam Scott, Luis Oosthuizen, Kevin Na and Lee Westwood have already been seen sporting the new Pro/SL shoes at several events.

Maybe it' because the Pro/SL golf shoes provide optimum feel with FootJoy's Fine Tuned Foam (FTF). FTF provides unbelievable cushioning and a perimeter weighted outsole for added stability. The combination of a 3-piece outsole which uses two blends of FTF, as well as a TPU molded sole that provides an incredible amount of traction creates a shoe that is as comfortable in the car on the way to the course as it is walking down the 18th fairway.

Or perhaps it's the Laser Plus Fit, with its fully rounded toe, standard fit across the instep and forefoot and a slightly narrow heel. There's added cushioning on the bottom of the foot thanks to a thicker insole, which only adds to the comfort.

The uppers of the new Pro/SL golf shoes are ChromoSkin leather, a proprietary material developed by Pittards of England. ChromoSkin is a lightweight, supple and 100% waterproof leather. FootJoy has so much confidence in this material that they offer a two-year waterproof warranty in the US. The new FootJoy Pro/SL golf shoes are available in men's sizes 7-13 and in three colors: Black, White/Silver and White/Blue. Retail price is $149.99.

Versaluxe - Added Style On and Off the Course

Another good looking golf shoe recently introduced by FootJoy is the Versaluxe. From the selection of high grade, premium leathers to the added detail in the stitching, the Versaluxe separates itself from other shoes. FootJoy uses SuppleLuxe leather, a material developed by Pittards of England. SuppleLuxe is soft to the touch, durable and completely waterproof. In fact, FootJoy offers a two-year waterproof warranty on the Versaluxe shoe.

The Versaluxe shoes are also leather lined, which create mold-to-foot comfort. The suede inner-heel pocket offers no-slip comfort fit and the cork insole - also found in the ICON Black line of FootJoy footwear - also provides an unprecedented level of comfort. Lastly (pun intended), the Lane Last offers a full rounded toe with a full fit across the forefoot, allowing the toes to spread and grip.

Of particular note is the fact that the Versaluxe shoe is available in wide widths, something not found in the majority of golf shoes. They also come with an extra pair of tonal shoelaces. The Versaluxe shoes are available in sizes 7-15 and in 4 colors: Distressed Off White, Distressed Black, Luggage Black and Luggage Caramelo. Retail price is $169.99.

As they say, the proof is in the pudding, or, in this case, the gripping. Both the Pro/SL and Versaluxe shoes provide excellent traction, regardless of whether you're playing in the hot, afternoon sun or in the early morning dew. Feet stay firmly connected to the ground, with no slippage whatsoever. The uppers and midsole provide great stability and allow you to power through your swing without any fear. They are comfortable enough to wear for 36 holes, in fact, you'll wear down before your feet do!

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
