Reviving a Classic Look

By David Theoret

Payne Stewart was always one of my favorite pro golfers. He was a class act; an athlete kids could look up to and respect. And he always looked the part; he was rumored to have the largest wardrobe of any professional golfer and those Kangol caps he wore always looked brand new. But what did it for me was the knickers, and Payne wore them in colors so bright they would make Loudmouth Golf proud. On Sundays, he usually wore the colors of the closest NFL football team or something that symbolized the event.

Although this form of golf attire was popular back in 1920's - particularly in the UK, it never really caught on in the US no matter how hard Payne tried. I've heard that Bryson DeChambeau may try to revive the look, but that remains to be seen. These days, I never see them on the golf course; unless they're the ones I'm wearing from GolfKnickers.com. Or my friend Hal is wearing his.

GolfKnickers.com is the worlds' leading retailer when it comes to classic golf apparel. They offer a full line of men's plus fours or golf knickers. But the fun doesn't stop there; they have everything to complement your new look. GolfKnickers.com also has a full line of matching socks, caps and shirts. Depending on the pattern you choose, they may also offer a matching vest and/or bow tie. Everything you need to look the part of a great old school golfer; even if you don't have game.

Ordering from the GolfKnickers.com website is easy, safe and secure. You're first decision is what exactly you want. By that I mean you can order just a pair of knickers, knickers and a cap or a complete outfit. Their complete outfits offer the best value. They're well-coordinated and in most cases, there are plenty of socks and polos to go with each pair of knickers. They are available in solid colors, plaids and camo. GolfKnickers.com also offers solid and plaid trousers if you don't feel daring enough for knickers.

Once you decide on what you want, click on the swatch and then choose your waist and shirt size and be sure to tell them how tall you are. This determines how long your knickers should be; too long and they will look to baggy. Waist sizes are available up to 56" and polos up to 3XL. Enter your credit card information, wait for approval and you're done. Your new golf knickers usually ship the same day and will arrive shortly. Welcome to the club!

The quality of these garments is impressive. The solid purple set I ordered is made of microfiber. I was expecting them to be a lot hotter than they were, but I was surprised about how comfortable they were in the hot, Florida sun. What also surprised me was the quality of the polo shirt. Not only is it a good-looking polo, it's lightweight and breathable.

If you're looking to add a unique look to your golf wardrobe, why not try some knickers? Not only will you look different - which is a good thing, I find that you'll play differently as well. Maybe it's because I was thinking about something other than my swing.

About: David Theoret

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
