Golfweek Ranks Forest Dunes Among Best Modern Courses

Forest Dunes Golf Club, the nationally acclaimed Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course in northern Michigan, has once again earned a spot among Golfweek's 2013 Best Modern Courses. The premier golf course also earned status among the publications "Best You Can Play" State by State rankings in Michigan.

Forest Dunes Golf Club, which opened in 2002, was ranked No. 91 among Golfweek's "Top 100 Modern" and No. 3, among the "Best-in-State" in Michigan. Golfweek's course evaluators submit ballots grading courses all over the country taking into account factors such as routing of the course, feature shaping, greens, variety and memorable holes, conditioning, maintenance, and landscape management.

Forest Dunes Golf Club, which was designed by former British Open winner Tom Weiskopf, is unlike any other in northern Michigan. The front nine features parkland-style holes meandering through corridors of red and jack pines, with elaborate bunkering and sandy waste areas on the sides. The back nine is quite different, featuring even more open and exposed rugged native sand areas with scruffy underbrush bordering and crossing fairways and greens.

2013 Forest Dunes Golf Packages Now Available for Booking

Scheduled to open in April, the new Lake AuSable Lodge golf packages are now available for booking. Lodge standard room 36-hole packages start at $149 per person and two-night 54-hole packages start at $259 during the shoulder seasons. Golfers can upgrade to the golf cottages or Lodge Suites for a small up charge. The packages can also be customized for large groups and also include meal packages.

The new lodge reflects the same Adirondack architectural theme as the nearby golf clubhouse, using hardwoods, cedar shake siding and stone on the exterior. The lodge features 14 rooms and suites, which will overlook the scenic Lake AuSable and the No. 1 tee of the Forest Dunes golf course.

Golfers looking to sharpen their game this spring should also experience the Kendall/Seltzer Golf Getaway School at Forest Dunes. Led by two of Michigan's leading golf instructors, Dave Kendall and Jack Seltzer, this school will improve all levels of golfers and focus on all aspects of the game including on-course management. The two-day golf school costs $1195 per person and includes lodging, meals, instruction, and golf.
