Golf Tip - What You Can Do Now to Be Better in 2010

By Pat Bayley, Director of Golf at Swan Lake Resort- home of the United States Golf Academy

We are extremely fortunate to have a year round teaching facility at the United States Golf Academy. The facilities combination of state of the art technology and professional expertise allows us to use the "off season" as the best time to improve our student's golf games. The following are three important aspects of our instruction packages that can be done with the snow on the ground.

Video Tape Your Swing. Winter is the best time to get with an Academy professional and document your swing on video. Video is the perfect way to identify issues like controlling the clubface, creating a predictable swing plane and path, and working on your balance by controlling the length of your swing. Finding the solutions to these issues will help you get off to a fast start when the weather breaks.

Develop a Putting Strategy. Developing a sound putting stroke and strategy is another good winter project. With our PuttLab technology we can measure 28 different parameters of the putting stroke in incredibly accurate detail. This "MRI" of your stroke allow us to identify strengths and tendencies in a player's stroke and use them as a basis to determine the best method for the individual player rather than attempt to teach a method ill suited for the individual. Time spent in the winter on your putting method will pay huge benefits in the upcoming season.

Check your Equipment. Using the industry standard, Trackman ball flight monitor, we can analyze every club in a player's golf bag. Trackman accurately measures speeds, launch characteristics, and spin rates to predict accurate ball flight models without going outdoors. With this information we can evaluate and identify trajectory or distance issues through the set, insuring that you start the season with the best 14 clubs available for your golf game.

The Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia, Peoria, Arizona

When it comes to the best of Arizona's courses, welcome to Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia, which recently received the highest honor from Golf Digest-five out of five stars. In the process, Trilogy at Vistancia became the first-ever public-access golf course in Arizona to earn such a distinction.

Just how good was Trilogy at Vistancia's latest award? First of all, only 23 other courses in America were selected for five-star status, courses like Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes and TPC Sawgrass. Certainly Trilogy at Vistancia has lived up to those high standards behind rolling fairways and gorgeous greens designed by longtime Arizona architect Gary Panks. It is the perfect in the JANUARY alternative to some of the typically high-priced green fees associated with Scottsdale.

Midwest Featured Course

Blackstone Golf Club, Marengo, IL

Blackstone Golf Club in Marengo, Illinois is truly a great place to call your HOME for golf. The golf course itself is spectacular, boasting over 6700 yards worth of bent grass greens and fairways, 26 acres of environmentally protected wetlands, and 56 uniquely designed bunkers. This layout is one that will challenge the best of players and yet provide an enjoyable time for golfers of any skill level. As many players at Blackstone will attest to, no two rounds of golf at Blackstone are alike.

As if the golf course alone is not reason enough to call it home, the membership and daily fee programs that are offered will. Golfers still searching for that perfect place to call home, will find one of three levels of membership fitting them to a tee. The Gold Membership allows for unlimited play 7 days a week, while the Silver Membership allows for unlimited weekday play and weekends after 1PM. If the upfront cost of either the Gold or Silver is not agreeable with certain budgets, then the Bronze Membership is the answer. The Bronze Membership requires a nominal up front fee, and entitles the member to pay a significantly reduced daily fee for each round.

Regardless the level, ALL Blackstone members are entitled to make reservations 30 days in advance, thus nearly guaranteeing them the times they WANT to play. If an annual membership still hasn't earned the title of HOME, then Blackstone's daily fees should do it. Blackstone offers non-members the chance to play it's course at some of the most reasonable daily fees in all of Chicagoland. Visit Blackstone's website www.blackstonegc.com for further information on memberships and daily fee golf. Blackstone looks forward to welcoming you Home for your next round of golf!
