Tempo Teacher

Teaches How To Clear The Hips and Drive Power With Lower Body

By Brian Weis

Last year after my first video lesson, my golf instructor pointed out that I swung with my arms and did not drive my swing with my hips. We worked on some drills but the concept did not cement into my brain.

On a recent golf trip, I saw fellow golf writer, Mike Bailey warming up on the range with a long driveway marker through his belt loops. As I walked over to him, he remarked that he had a lesson that finally thaught him how to clear his hips.

I tried the drill and Eureka!

Mike Bailey shared that his lesson used a small inexpensive device called the Tempo Teacher. He ordered one and couldn't wait so he rigged his pants by lining up a few belt loops and strung through the rods to simulate the device.

I would not try this stunt at home. You have to turn your pants to align the hoops 30 degrees making it incredibly uncomfortable. Do yourself a favor and order the Tempo Teacher. It costs less than a dozen golf balls.

What The Tempo Teacher Has Done For Me

Before the Tempo Teacher, my flawed golf swing generated power from a massive shoulder turn and the quick speed of my arms. The device is the first drill that gave me instant feedback on where my body (arms, shoulders and hips) needs to be at all stages of the golf swing. For me, if I swing with my shoulders and do not clear my hips I will hit the rod on the follow through. Working with the Tempo Teacher for a few days, I learned the correct relationship with my body and how to clear my hips. Now my swing is driven by my lower body resulting in powerful consistent shots.

I could explain how it works, but golf instructor Tim Cusick explains it best.
