Powerbilt Driver Takes Off

Powerbilt Driver Takes Off

By John Ehle

Powerbilt's newest offering, the Nitrogen-bolstered Air Force One has recently been promoted by athletes who participate in extreme sports; MMA star Cub Swanson, for example. The Deep Face Extreme (DFX) driver is filled with nitrogen under pressure, permitting continued use of the thin-faced driver without adding weight. The club is offered in lofts from 8.5 to 12.5 degrees, trending toward the industry's move to loftier drivers.

PowerBilt has been making golf clubs since 1916 and may be most well-known as the manufacturer of Hillerich and Bradsby baseball bats. Historic wins at the Masters, US Open and the PGA Championship have fortified PowerBilt's re-entry into the industry with this sleek, aerodynamic black beauty and test results have been supportive of its use across the demographic.

As a 68 year-old with 60 years on the links, I found the Air Force One to nicely accommodate my slower swing speed (85-90 MPH). The DFX is available in a diverse array of shafts with a reasonable upcharge for pricier models. My distances on a brisk spring morning varied between 205 and 220 yards on soft fairways.

Call it vain but this club presents itself with the look-at-me vibe that most of us celebrate. The MSRP is $299.99. More information at www.powerbilt.com.
