Give our readers an overview of your destination and why they should consider it for their next golf trip?
History does not record whether Don Juan Ponce de Leon brought his clubs when his expedition may have landed in what is today St. Augustine. But a lot of visitors since 1513 have.

Part of what is called Florida's First Coast, stretches all the way along the Atlantic Seaboard from Amelia Island to Palm Coast, St. Augustine is in the middle of some of Florida's best golfing country.

What are the must play courses in St Augustine and Ponte Vedra?
Of course, golfers visiting the area can go just a bit further afield and find layouts that challenge the pros or touch base with history.

A top choice is a pilgrimage to the Stadium Course at the TPC Sawgrass, home to THE PLAYERS Championship and home of the PGA TOUR. Built by renowned architect Pete Dye, the Stadium Course features the instantly recognizable 17th hole, a par 3 with its iconic "island" green. Dye's Valley Course, the sister course at TPC Sawgrass, was also designed by Pete Dye along with Bobby Weed and Consultant Jerry Pate and presents an equally challenging game.

Two more options with their own water-related dramatics await at Ponte Vedra Inn and Club. Positioned along the Atlantic Ocean and a network of lakes and lagoons, both the Ocean Course and the Lagoon Course feature undulating fairways and dramatic vistas.

The Ocean Course opened in 1928, giving the area its first resort golf experience. It was designed by British architect Herbert Bertram Strong, and has served as a site for U.S. Open qualifying.

The Lagoon Course is not as long - at 5,574 yards and par 70 - but the Robert Trent Jones design requires control and shot-making for success on its narrow fairways and small, fast greens.

What is the hidden gem and/or best value course?
The hidden gem in the area is the county operate golf course - St. Johns Golf Club.

The course is located just minutes from downtown St. Augustine, off 207 in Cypress Lakes, offering golfers 18 well-maintained, championship holes for players of all ages and skills. St. Johns Golf Club has been voted "Best of St. Augustine" and awarded Four Stars by Golf Digest!

World Golf Hall of Fame is a "Must Do" attraction for any bucket list traveling golfer. The World Golf Hall of Fame and Museum celebrates the game, its history and its players. In addition, the museum honors the greatest contributors and players in the game through historical and interactive exhibits that include artifacts, photos and video. Several special exhibits open each year. Castillo de San Marcos National monument, the Castillo de San Marcos, is the oldest masonry Fort in the United States and the only standing 17th century military construction. It is also one of two forts built of coquina, a soft limestone composed of broken shells. This native material gave the Spanish a special advantage. Instead of cracking or collapsing, coquina walls absorbed or deflected enemy projectiles allowing the Spanish to guard their possessions and keep their people safe. This unique craftsmanship has been standing since 1695 and is continually admired by tourists today. The fort sits on a 20.5 acre national park where tourists can step inside the walls of the fort, hear cannons fly and attend live reenactments.

Take a free tour of the St. Augustine Distillery and watch as they mix, mash, cook and distill small batch vodka, rum, gin and whiskey in a historically renovated ice manufacturing plant from 1917.
