Q + A with Jamaica Pro Am Tournament Director Nick Schmitz
Why You Should Play in the Event in 2021
By Brian Weis
What is the Jamaica Pro Am
The Jamaica Pro Am is an annual Pro -Am golf tournament held in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It is widely regarded as one of the finest golf and hospitality experiences in the Caribbean.
When will this year's event be held and what is the Host Hotel?
This year's event will be held on November 17-21, 2021 and we will once again be staying at the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall Resort, which is an all suite, all inclusive resort 5 minutes from all of our golf courses.
What courses do you play?
We play three of the finest courses in Jamaica: Cinnamon Hill, Half Moon, and White Witch.
If I want to participate as an amateur player in the event, how does the process work?
Well first of all, all of the event information is listed on our website: www.jamaicaproam.com Each team consists of one PGA Golf Professional (or similar) and 3 paid amateur players. Typically, the Golf Pro is the Head Golf Pro of a local country club who rounds up 3 of his/her members and they travel together to compete against other teams from all around North America. Spouses, Friends, and Guests are welcome too - even if they don't play in the event.
What if I am a single amateur and don't have a full team?
Each year we allow a limited number of single amateur players to participate. If someone wants to participate, but doesn't have a full team, they can send me an email: email@example.com and we will do our best to pair them up on a team.
Given the current Coronavirus Pandemic, what safety measures have you put in place to ensure the health and safety of all participants?
Great question. The health and safety of our customers, staff, and all stakeholders is the most important aspect of our events. We have been closely monitoring all CDC and Government regulations and protocols in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Jamaica and will continue to do so all the way up to and through the event. We hope that all of our participants will be able to get vaccinated in the coming weeks/months and that the number of Covid 19 cases significantly drop over the next 7 months before the event.
How many teams typically participate in your event?
We typically have 30-40 teams participate in any given year, however we have the ability to host 60 teams as we use three golf courses that are all right next to each other and we rotate the field each day so that everyone can play all of the courses.
What makes your event different than other Pro-Am's that exist around North America?
That's another great question. There are obviously many great events out there, but we know hospitality and customer service like no other because we do this for a living and have been running golf tournaments for over 20 years in multiple Countries. The Jamaica Tourist Board who is responsible for making this event happen is comprised of some of the greatest Tourism and Hospitality executives in the World and they know how to do it right.
What are the 2021 dates and where can golfers get more information?
Thank you so much for including us on your site and for helping us promote the Jamaica Pro Am. We can't wait to welcome everyone to Montego Bay on November 17-21, 2021. Again the website has all the details: www.jamaicaproam.com
