Golf Course Information
The Dothan Country Club was organized in 1923, at the present location and on February 24, 1924 the first round of golf was played on the course. When the course was originally constructed, the greens were composed of sand. In 1933 they were converted to grass. Many early tales describe mule drawn mowers cutting the grass in the fairways.
In 1956 the old clubhouse was torn down and the present structure constructed. Renovations and repairs were done in 1981 as a result of damage caused by a New Year's Eve fire. Renovations were also done in 1989. At that same time the old pro shop building was torn down and the present Golf and Fitness Building constructed.
In 2002 the Club went through major golf course and building renovations. Golf course architect Bill Bergin of Atlanta, redesigned the course. In regard to the buildings, improvements were made to the golf and tennis buildings, and a reconfiguration to the layout as well as some expansion was done to the clubhouse.
Over the years the club has hosted many notable personalities such as golfers Jack Nicholas, Arnold Palmer, Gardner Dickinson, Julius Boros, Bob Tway, Stewart Cink, and Johnny Potts. Rod Laver once played on the Tennis Courts. The Reverend Billy Graham has been a guest at the club. Numbers of national political leaders, athletic coaches, and entertainers have enjoyed the hospitality of the Club and its members.
