Rick Martin - Golf Apparel for Discerning Shoppers

A Conversation With King Cotton

By John Ehle

Rick Martin has been in the clothing industry for more than 50 years and it would be fair, historically, to call him "King Cotton". His belief in cotton goes deep and his company, Rick Martin Golf Apparel, is committed to cotton as its primary material in the crafting and design of golf shirts. "Natural fibers give a superior feel on a person's skin", said Martin. "I've seen things evolve over my 50 years in the industry and in the long run, nothing feels as good as cotton".

Martin worked for Hathaway and Gant for many years and in doing so became a true believer in cotton fabric. The mercerization process enabled us (the industry) to produce fabrics that produced collars that maintained that "new" look as well as enabling shirtmakers to offer products that were colorfast. "The old method of making collars was to turn back the single layer of fiber to attempt to stabilize the edge" said Martin. "We employ a double-locking procees whereby we finish the collar be using 4 ends. "Our collars lay down". That prevents the curl which basically dooms the shirt to the bottom drawer or to lawn-mowing duty.

"I concoct my own color palette to look sharp with khaki, the go to choice for most golfers in terms of short and pant selection". The vine and purple garments that I've been wearing bear that out. These colors have an additional "pop" that I've not seen before. Rick Martin has a keen eye. This holiday season, when you're looking for a memorable, quality gift for your favorite golfer, think Rick Marin Golf Apparel.

Martin distributes solely to shops in private clubs with pro shops managed my PGA professionals.
