Cure CX Putters Review

A More Traditional Look for a Non Traditional Putter

By David Theoret

For a company that is relatively new to the putter world, Cure Putters has certainly been making their mark. They were recently recognized as "The Fastest Growing Putter on the Champions Tour". Cure Putters is also a 2016 Golf Digest Hotlist Award Winner!

Now, Cure has added a couple of new models to their lineup, the Classic Series CX1 and CX2 putters. According to Jim Barfield, Vice President of Tour Operations for Cure Putters, "When we introduced the new Classic Series putters on the Champions Tour the week before the 3M Championship, the response was overwhelming and positive. The following week at the 3M, 7 of the 81 putters in play were Cure Putters. I've never seen a new putter create such a buzz among the players and be put into play so quickly. The Tour Players said they love the look, sound and roll of the new CX1 and CX2 putters. They're taking the Champions Tour by storm!"

It's not really that much of a surprise. Cure Putters has led the industry in delivering the Highest Moment of Inertia (MOI) in putters since launching in 2014 and the new Classic Series delivers the incredible stability and forgiveness of a High MOI mallet in a visually stunning, traditional blade style putter - albeit a rather large blade style putter. Cure doesn't do anything small!

The difference between the two putters is that the back of the blade on the CX1 has a square shape to it, while the back of the blade on the CX2 is more rounded. Both are precision milled in the USA, 100% CNC milled aluminum to be exact, with a 5" blade length. Both putters are offered in an anodized black or platinum finish. So far it sounds like your average oversized putter right? And if that's where it ended that would be true, but in fact, that's just the beginning.
Cure Classic Series putters have a higher center of gravity, lower loft and deeper face that impacts the ball at the equator. This helps to deliver a superior roll - getting the ball rolling sooner and helping it stay on its intended line.

But what really makes this putter different are the tungsten weight inserts in the heel and toe of the putter blade along with 42g of weight adjustability using the 6 removable weights. For me, this isn't a putter that I buy at the store and stick it in my golf bag. The CX1 and CX2 require a "tuning" process. After all, the CX1 has an adjustable weight range of 334 to 376 grams and the CX2 is a tad heavier and can be adjusted from 342 to 384 grams. The end result is a putter with a traditional look at address, and twice the MOI and stability of a typical blade putter. Unlike the CX line, you do not see any of the weights while you are standing over the ball, they are completely hidden.

With all of the weight - both adjustable and non-adjustable - being located in the head and the toe, Cure has virtually eliminated any head twisting on less than perfect putts. This will lead to a more consistent putting stroke and more putts holed on the first try. You can't help but get the ball to the hole with any of the Cure putters.

The Cure putter is aimed at golfers who are set on improving their game, but want a more traditional looking putter than what the RX series offers. Its sole purpose is to help you make more putts.

Cure CX putters are available in both left and right orientations and in standard lengths with a retail price on the Cure website of $299.95. They also conform to all USGA rules. About: David Theoret

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
