Golf Guide: Mobile - AL

It all started in Mobile when Magnolia Grove opened in 1992. Other courses designed by Robert Trent Jones followed at an astounding pace until there were. 26 courses, 468 holes at 11 sites spanning the state from South to North which make up The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

Today in the Mobile Bay area, in addition to the two RTJ courses, the Falls and Crossings at Magnolia Grove which have been recently renovated, there are close to 10 more sound tracks like the three nines at Peninsula Golf Club designed by Earl Stone and the two courses across the Bay at Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear.

Golfers will find a number of good places to stay in the Mobile area from chain hotels to the in-city Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel and the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort in Point Clear.

Ranked by Golf Digest as one of the top ten golf values in the country, Mobile was called "strikingly inexpensive" by Money Magazine. Rates are indeed a good deal with green fees typically ranging around $50 to $60 including a cart with play and stay offers hovering around $100.

This is a great warm weather golf destination where the fishing, boating, southern-style cuisine and golf are all wrapped into one great package.
