Point Of Woods - Singature Hole #9

Point O Woods is Oh So Good

Host of 37 Western Amatuer Opens

By Brian Weis

Until recently playing the private course has been nearly impossible for the public. With the opening of Harbor Shores Golf Club in nearby Benton Harbor the area is building it's image as a true golf destination. Golf travelers can now set foot on this legendary golf course and play where Tiger Woods, Andy North and Phil Mickelson won The Western Amateur. Play is available through stay and play packages only booked through Harbor Shores or directly throughout the course.

On property are several plush fully furnished cottages that will sleep 2 fore-somes. Your group will enjoy all the modern amenities including WiFi.

History aside, the course is a mix of open and tight classic holes that require some shot shaping to avoid mature trees. Almost every hole is accented with white crushed silica sand traps.

Ronald Fox, course Superintendent commented "We redid all the sand traps in 2003. Not only are the sand traps aesthetically beautiful, they play true and it is virtually impossible for the ball to be in a fried egg lie".

I commented to Ron, that the course feels Augusta National like. He mentioned, Tiger Woods once called the course, "The Augusta National of the North."

All of his life, Brian has been around the game of golf. As a youngster, Brian competed at all levels in junior and high school golf. Brian had a zero chance for a college golf scholarship, so he worked on the grounds crew at West Bend Country Club to pay for his University of Wisconsin education. In his adult years, his passion for the game collided with his entrepreneurial spirit and in 2004 launched GolfWisconsin.com. In 2007, the idea for a network of local golf directory sites formed and GolfTrips.com was born. Today, the network consists of a site in all 50 states supported by national sites like GolfTrips.com, GolfGuide.com and GolfPackages.com. It is an understatement to say, Brian is passionate about promoting golf and golf travel on a local, regional, national and international level.

On the golf course, Brian is known as a fierce weekend warrior that fluctuates between a 5-9 handicap. With a soft fade, known as "The Weis Slice", and booming 300+ drives, he can blast it out of bounds with the best of them.
