My standard operating procedure before playing a golf course for the first time is to ask the head pro which is the signature hole. Today was no different as I strolled into the proshop of Greywalls, the number 2 ranked course in Michigan by Golf Week Magazine. Marc Gilmore, Director of Golf, hesitated then answered, "They are all signature holes!!!"

Yes, I've heard that line before! But after playing the Mike DeVries masterpiece, I can see why Marc responded this way. All 18 holes are flagship worthy, heck even the 8 minute cart ride it takes to get to the first tee could be considered a memorable experience. After ascending to the first tee, you can see glistening Lake Superior in the distance.

Notable Holes

#6 - Pure panoramic intimidation. A par 3 that plays 188 yards over a rocky gorge that's completely framed in by the namesake Greywalls.

#9 - Marc's favorite hole - an uphill 389 yard par-4 with distant views of Lake Superior. Before you start thinking what to get at the halfway house, you need to summon all your concentration to hit a booming drive over a menacing pot bunker. Then a precise second shot is needed to an uphill green with a rock ledge to the left sure to swallow errant hooks.

#15 - An incredible par-3 with Greywalls behind the huge double tiered green. You can fire away at the flag and watch your ball funnel towards the hole.
