Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Billy Klemz who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.
Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property We are an old tree lined property surrounded by Forest Preserves. We have 27 holes on property and are usually quite busy. We take reservations for gold 7 days ahead on the telephone and 8 days out on the internet. We have built a new clubhouse in the last five years with a great restaurant and banquet facility.
If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course? We are the kind of place where a very accomplished player can find tremendous challenge. At the same time a less experienced golfer can still have fun without feeling beaten up by the end of the round. We have a large and loyal customer base in a very friendly environment.
What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course? The greens have a fair amount of slope and at times of the year can be quick, being below the pins whenever possible will reduce the putting totals.
Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course? We are most proud of the fact that, even in the trying economic times, we continue to try to improve the course each and every year. The south course was just reopened after a fall renovation project to excellent reviews. The East nine was done one year ago and the west will be reworked this fall.
What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole? The most talked about hole is #10 East a 538 yard par 5 with water right and woods left. It is sometimes talked about with anger and sometimes with joy. It is certainly challenging as it requires three shots of tremendous accuracy. The most photograhped holes are 3 south or 13 east. Both feature significant elevation changes and are framed by large trees in the forest preserve.
What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It? My favorite hole is 9 south. A 377 yard par four that moves downhill the entire length of the hole. The clubhouse sits prominantly behind the green and is a fantastic view for finishing your round.
Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole? For an appetizer Billy's bruschetta, because it is actually named after me :) In all seriousness though, our chef Alan Pierhofer is truly a gift to our facility. The food that comes out of the kitchen is amazing. For drinks, if you are so inclined, we have a great craft beer menu, I am partial to the laguanitas.
Who Holds Course Record and What Was Their Score? That would be me, 65 from the back tees. A funny note, it was beat the pro against a large senior group that plays here, and 7 guys beat me with their handicap.......you can do the math. :)
Back Tee Stats Par: 72 Yardage: 6761 Slope: 132 Rating: 72.5
