Bobby Jones Apparel

Just about everything I have ever read about golf tells me that there has never been a more gentlemanly player than Bobby Jones. Just hearing the name Bobby Jones makes me want to jump out of the car and help an old lady cross the street or throw my coat down over a puddle so she doesn't get her feet wet. Talk about chivalry!

Bobby Jones may well be best remembered as one of the greatest ambassadors of the game. He still remains the only golfer ever to win the infamous Grand Slam and he is the reason that the Masters tournament is held in such high esteem around the world. And so it is that the golf apparel created in his name combines today's country club look with a new spin on old traditions, however I seriously doubt that knickers paired with a shirt and tie will ever become the norm in golf apparel.

A couple of things that stand out with Bobby Jones golf apparel are the high quality of their fabrics and their attention to detail. This is exemplified by the 100% Peruvian cotton and durable merino wool with a drop needle stitch design used in their outerwear to the golf ball dimple buttons and the likeness of the golfer himself on the placket of Signature polos.

The Golfin' Guy was fortunate enough to receive a few samples from the 2015 Spring collection. Although we liked all of it, here are some of the pieces that caught our eye:

For Men

The Garment Dyed Stretch Plain Front Short is a Bobby Jones signature item and a must have for every golfer's wardrobe. Created from a cotton twill blend which gives them a comfort stretch, these eye catching shorts combine ease of movement with a relaxed fit. The garment is pre-dyed and washed for a superior, smooth finish. The Garment Dyed Stretch Plain Front Shorts have a 9 3/4" inseam and are available in waist sizes 30 - 44 and in 18 colors. Retail price is $95.

The X-H2O Performance Micro Stripe is another Bobby Jones Signature item. X-H2O means anti-water and this line of Bobby Jones apparel combines breathability with comfort and is designed to protect you against too much moisture which, in Florida's summer weather, can be either rain or sweat. This 92% Poly/8% Spandex polo features a tailored collar and a fine line stripe that gives it a semi-solid appearance. It also has the best moisture-wicking, UV protection, breathability and anti-microbial function of any polo offered by Bobby Jones. The shoulder to shoulder stretch taping allows for movement and adds strength to the shoulder seams. Also featured is the infamous Bobby Jones golfer on the placket as well as electroplated 'golf ball' dimpled buttons. The X-H2O Performance Micro Stripe Polo is available in sizes S - XXXL and in a myriad of colors including sapphire, grape, key lime, lemon and marine. Retail price is $89.

We also received a Leaderboard ¼ Zip Pullover; another Bobby Jones Signature item. This 100% Peruvian Pima cotton garment uses a special finish to achieve its rich, vibrant color and brilliant luster. The Leaderboard ¼ Zip Pullover offers both superb comfort and long-lasting wear and is the perfect layering piece when the temperatures start to drop. The Leaderboard ¼ Zip Pullover features a ribbed collar that is striped on the inside, as well as ribbed side and underarm sleeve panels. The Bobby Jones player logo is engraved on the zipper pull. The Leaderboard 1/4 Zip Pullover is available in sizes S - XXXL and in 25 brilliant colors.

For Women

As far as women's golf apparel from Bobby Jones goes, we liked the Tech Polo with Lace Overlay. It offers a unique combination of a performance fabric with a touch of ivory contrast stretch lace for an trendy look that performs well in all types of weather. The Tech Polo features short sleeves, a keyhole front and a button closure in addition to the lace overlay. The fabric is 92% Nylon, 8% Spandex and the Tech Polo with Lace Overlay is available in sizes S - XXL and in three colors: melon, green apple and geranium. Retail price is $98.50.

Also appealing on the women's side is the Cotton Stretch Short. Nobody produces a cotton short with the quality and craftsmanship better than Bobby Jones. Perhaps it's because the sateen structure in the weaving process places the most threads on the surface, making it extremely soft and lustrous and giving it a dressier look compared to other fabrics. On top of that, 3% Lycra is added for ease of movement. The Bobby Jones Women's Cotton Stretch Short is available in sizes 0 - 16 and comes in three colors: black, pearl & terra cotta. Retail price is $110.

While wearing the Bobby Jones brand, you're not going to stand out like you would with some manufacturers; at least not in that way. You will stand out as a person who chooses their golf apparel with class and is appreciative of the finer things in life - without going broke!

Several words have been used to describe the late, great Bobby Jones. Words like greatness, integrity, consistency, grace and respect. I believe these words can also be used to describe the apparel company created in his name. You won't find the Bobby Jones brand at your local golf retailer or, God forbid, Sam's Club.
