ECCO Speed Hybrid Golf Shoes

ECCO Speed Hybrid Golf Shoes Review

Stylin' and Profilin' Down the Fairway.

By David Theoret

For years, ECCO has been recognized as the pinnacle of golf shoe manufacturers, producing a product that is extremely comfortable and built to last. And it doesn't hurt that several well-known Tour players sport them on the course as well: Fred Couples, Ernie Els and Graeme McDowell.

ECCO's products continue to evolve; one of their more recent introductions is the Speed Hybrid Golf Shoes. These shoes combine a vintage sneaker look with ECCO's leading-edge comfort technology and a Tour-proven outsole.

Starting at the top, the rich leather uppers are treated with HYDROMAX, which offers incredible resistance to weather and other adverse conditions. It's extremely comfortable and breathable. And, with ECCO's Freedom Fit, your heel will fit snugly into the shoe and the roomier forefoot area allows toes to move naturally.

In case your new ECCOs fit a little snug, try removing the insole. This gives way to a ECCO's Comfort Fiber Inlay Sole leather insole and adds a little extra width, added cushioning and in many cases, more comfort for your jaunt around the course.

ECCO's durable TPU outsole features the company's E-DTS Hybrid Outsole Technology with molded traction bars which provides 800 grip angles for superior traction and first-rate grip. The TPU Material has been proven to last about 5 times longer than rubber.

Like all ECCO golf shoes, the Speed Hybrid golf shoe is crafted at ECCO-owned factories using their Direct-injection Process. This bonds the upper and outsole unit, creating a one-piece shoe without the use of glue or stitching. It also gives the shoe permanent memory and a firm, water-tight seal.

When I first tried these shoes on, the fit was quite snug but once I removed with insole, there was plenty of room. Put them on and lace them up and these shoes seem to mold right to your feet. They provide an extreme amount of cushioning and comfort; you'll feel like you could walk in them all day. The outsoles keep you firmly anchored to the ground throughout your golf swing regardless of the weather conditions.

The Speed Hybrid from ECCO is available for men in half sizes from 5-13.5 and in three color combinations: Black/Black and Titanium/Wild Dove both with a neon green outsole and tinted laces and Dark Shadow/Dark Shadow with an orange outsole and orange tinted laces. The colors are muted enough that the shoes will pair nicely with several of your favorite golf outfits. Retail price is $180.

David Theoret David Theoret has been in the golf and golf travel industry for over 10 years, primarily selling online advertising. For the past seven years, he has also been a golf writer, reviewing golf courses, resorts, destinations, equipment, golf apparel, and training aids - the latter of which never seems to help. David's articles and reviews have been posted on many golf travel and equipment websites.

Growing up in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, it was naturally assumed he would play hockey. Beginning at the age of 3 and continuing into his late 30's, he did just that. However, after one too many pucks to the head, he realized that golf was a lot easier on the body (whoever said hockey players were slow) and took the game up.

After moving to Florida and accepting a position with TravelGolf Media (now part of GolfNow) his love for the game grew exponentially. Most Saturdays you will find him on a course somewhere in Florida or on the practice range reinforcing his bad habits. David plays to a 10 handicap - unless there is money involved in which case it goes considerably higher. He currently resides in Lakeland, FL with his wife Belinda and their two "kids", Madyson and Molly.
