Golf Ball Review: Explantation of the New Nike ONE Golf Balls
By Brian Weis
With Nike Golf's introduction of the new Nike ONE Tour, Nike ONE Tour D and Nike ONE Vapor golf balls to the Nike ONE ball franchise, Tour-level and highly skilled players now have the option of three distinct levels of performance, combining varying combinations of launch conditions, spin and feel, while offering distance and control.
"The development process for each of these balls was inspired by the testing we conducted with our Nike athletes on the PGA Tour as well as the comprehensive testing we executed with consumers," said Rock Ishii, Nike's product development director of golf balls.
"We explored various levels of head speeds and launch conditions. We listened to our athletes. We listened to our consumers," he added. "The result has been what I think is the most powerful Nike ONE Ball Series we've ever created."
Nike ONE Tour
Aimed at highly skilled players, the Nike ONE Tour ball features a four-piece seamless urethane construction and is designed for those individuals who have swing speeds in excess of 90 mph. Featuring a newly reformulated core and cover, the Nike ONE Tour has further reduced driver spin and optimized flight trajectory improving overall distance performance.
The 88-compression ball's four-piece construction includes a progressive density core optimized to increase velocity, control excess spin and improve feel. An advanced polymer layer maximizes velocity, distance and control throughout the bag, and helps reduce side spin for straighter distance and minimal energy loss.
The inner cover extends feel and workability into the scoring irons, while the soft and seamless urethane outer cover boasts a 378-dimple pattern that helps provide superior feel and long, predictable flight.
PGA Tour players Stephen Ames, K.J. Choi, Trevor Immelman, Anthony Kim and Justin Leonard currently are playing with the new Nike ONE Tour ball, and Nike Golf officials anticipated that Tiger Woods will play it upon his return to competition.
Nike ONE Tour D
Delivering maximum distance with Tour-standard levels of spin and control, the Nike ONE Tour D ball is designed to optimize distance performance for players who have swing speeds in excess of 90 mph. The 80-compression Nike ONE Tour D offers Tour-level performance in a three-piece seamless urethane construction.
The ball's softened progressive density core delivers powerful speed off a wide range of swing types, while its advanced polymer Power Transfer Layer layer maximizes velocity, distance and control throughout the bag. It's seamless urethane cover, combined with 336 dimple aerodynamics, optimizes carry and delivers green-grabbing control.
PGA Tour players Stewart Cink and Lucas Glover currently are playing the new Nike ONE Tour D ball.
Nike ONE Vapor
The 70-compression Nike ONE Vapor ball is engineered to offer advanced speed and control, and combines Nike's Power Transfer Layer with a soft compression for added length, feel and durability. Aimed at golfers who have swing speeds in excess of 80 mph, the Nike ONE Vapor provides a balance of distance and control.
The ONE Vapor ball features a progressive density core maximizes distance for average swing speeds, while its ionomer blend outer cover, combined with a seamless 336-dimple design, adds length, control and consistency.
The Nike ONE Tour and Nike ONE Tour D models carry a suggested retail price of $58 per dozen, while the Nike ONE Vapor model carries a suggested retail price of $40 per dozen.

About: Brian Weis
Brian Weis is the mastermind behind GolfTrips.com, a vast network of golf travel and directory sites covering everything from the rolling fairways of Wisconsin to the sunbaked desert layouts of Arizona. If there’s a golf destination worth visiting, chances are, Brian has written about it, played it, or at the very least, found a way to justify a "business trip" there.
As a card-carrying member of the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA), International Network of Golf (ING), Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA), International Golf Travel Writers Association (IGTWA), and The Society of Hickory Golfers (SoHG), Brian has the credentials to prove that talking about golf is his full-time job. In 2016, his peers even handed him The Shaheen Cup, a prestigious award in golf travel writing—essentially the Masters green jacket for guys who don’t hit the range but still know where the best 19th holes are.
Brian’s love for golf goes way back. As a kid, he competed in junior and high school golf, only to realize that his dreams of a college golf scholarship had about the same odds as a 30-handicap making a hole-in-one. Instead, he took the more practical route—working on the West Bend Country Club grounds crew to fund his University of Wisconsin education. Little did he know that mowing greens and fixing divots would one day lead to a career writing about the best courses on the planet.
In 2004, Brian turned his golf passion into a business, launching GolfWisconsin.com. Three years later, he expanded his vision, and GolfTrips.com was born—a one-stop shop for golf travel junkies looking for their next tee time. Today, his empire spans all 50 states, and 20+ international destinations.
On the course, Brian is a weekend warrior who oscillates between a 5 and 9 handicap, depending on how much he's been traveling (or how generous he’s feeling with his scorecard). His signature move" A high, soft fade that his playing partners affectionately (or not-so-affectionately) call "The Weis Slice." But when he catches one clean, his 300+ yard drives remind everyone that while he may write about golf for a living, he can still send a ball into the next zip code with the best of them.
Whether he’s hunting down the best public courses, digging up hidden gems, or simply outdriving his buddies, Brian Weis is living proof that golf is more than a game—it’s a way of life.
