An Insightful Interview With Rag Jones, Head Golf Professional

By Brian Weis

Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with Rag Jones who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.

Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property
In 1970 the first 9 holes of golf opened for play in Fairfield Glade. All 18 holes were completed in 1973 and the championship course was named Druid Hills Golf Club. Located on the highest point in Fairfield Glade, as the name suggest, Druid Hills provides several scenic views of the surrounding mountains. With rolling, tree-lined fairways, plenty of water, several doglegs, and undulation bent grass greens, Druid Hills is a true test of golf. Druid Hills is the second shortest of the five courses in Fairfield Glade but rated as the 2nd most difficult.

If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course?
A true test of golf with tree lined fairways, several doglegs, and sloping greens. Not to mention some of the best mountain views from several holes.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course?
Play to the 100 or 150 markers will ensure an easier approach shot.

Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course?
Some of the best mountain views around.

What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole?
Hole #14 is a par 5 down hill with an approach shot over a pond and rock wall. The elevation of the teeing areas is impressive enough that there is a cul-de-sac road directly behind the back tees for people to enjoy the view.

What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It?
Hole #4 is a par 3 over a large pond with a bunker guarding. In the fall the trees left of the pond give incredible reflections making this hole one of my favorites.

Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole?
Legends restaurant has many nightly specials and is located in the same building as the golf shop.
