World Woods Has a New Owner & Name

Cabot Citrus Farms

By Dave Daubert

Brooksville, Fl.--The developer and operator of master-planned golf resort communities, Ben Cowan-Dewar, CEO of Cabot, officially announced the acquisition and reimagination of the acclaimed World Woods Golf Club on the Nature Coast. Set on a 2,100-acre parcel, Cabot Citrus Farms features two Tom Fazio exceptionally designed golf courses, an extraordinary practice complex that was considered the largest in the nation when the club opened in 1993 with a 2-acre practice putting green with 36 holes, 3 practice holes and the 9-hole par 3 course-Walk in the Woods, and a multi-sided driving range.

Fazio designed the 7,259 yard Pine Barrons golf course similar to Pine Valley in New Jersey and the 7,333 yard Rolling Oaks layout like Augusta National, home of the Masters. Tom took his direction from the original developer Yukihisa Inoue who built a championship golf resort in the quiet rural area of Hernando County about an hour north of Tampa.

"I couldn't wish for a better location for our first United States development, "said Cowan-Dewar. "The property is a nature lover's paradise that rivals the most spectacular sites I've seen around the world. We are very excited to build upon the amazing legacy established at World Woods and forge a new path for Cabot Citrus Farms as a vibrant golf and residential community showcasing the Sunshine State's abundant natural offerings."

One of Canada's finest golf resorts, Cabot Cape Breton is located on over a mile of sandy beach along the coast of Nova Scotia nestled between the Atlantic ocean and the picturesque village of Inverness. With two outstanding true links courses: the 6860 yard Cabot Links designed by Alberta native Ron Whitman in 2011, with ocean views from all 18 holes; and the Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw 6835 yard Cabot Cliffs. A short nine-hole course, the Nest, was added recently.

Besides the Cape Breton property, Cowan-Dewar is developing Cabot St. Lucia set to open in 2022 and Cabot Revelstoke, in progress in British Columbia.

World Woods will continue to operate under its current name with renovations beginning this spring. The finished development is expected to open in 2023 with a new clubhouse, improved practice facilities, a putting course and a driving range. Currently, the search is underway for a golf course architect or architects to improve the overall playing experience and bring out the best of this spectacular site.

As with all Cabot resorts, real estate will be a key component of the community with sales expected to begin later this year. Cabot Citrus Farms will be complete with retail, restaurants, fitness, and spa amenities, communal gathering spots and a farmer's market. Stay tuned.
