Cape Breton Island offers plenty of activities around Dundee Resort and Golf Club. Looking for a quick adventure outside the resort? Here's 10 things to see within 60 minutes from Dundee.


  1. Guiding Lights of Isle Madame: Located at Lennox Passage Provincial Park, off the 2313 Hwy 320 Martinique, set your eyes on the Guiding Lights of Isle Madame tour, where you will see the Island Madame lighthouse.This tour will explain the lighthouse's history, the stories of the lightkeepers, shipwrecks around the land, and John Paul Jones' visit to Arichat. These tours also support the preservation of the Isle Madame Lighthouse.

    The tour will run daily from June 1 to Oct. 16, and includes a cycling tour on Saturdays.

  2. Highland Village Museum: Want to experience an outdoor history museum? The Highland Village Museum and Gaelic folklife centre is the place to go. This museum presents the story, culture and identity of Nova Scotia Gaels, with live re-enactments and Gaelic cuisine.Located at 4119 Highway 223 Iona, with a stunning 43-acre property around Bras d'Or Lake, you can be in the heart of Cape Breton while learning the history of the island. You can explore the 11 historical buildings with passionate costumed animators explaining the history, and you can pick up souvenirs at the on-site gift shop.

    Highland Village Museum and Gaelic folklife centre also offer special events and programs throughout the year.

  3. Centennial Trails: If you're someone who enjoys exercising along scenic routes or partaking in outdoor activities, 30 minutes from the resort is the Centennial Trails--an 8-km trail perfect for running, cycling, horseback riding and more!On this trail, you will go through forested areas, meadows and rivers. It's the perfect place to have a picnic or soak up some sunshine in nature.

  4. Goat Island: You read that right. Goat Island got its legendary name because originally, goats played an important role in Eskasoni's farming history. But despite being used for farming purposes the goats started eating almost all the important crops. As a healthy preventative measure, they were placed on this island for many tourists to enjoy.Located at 25 Goat Island Trail, Eskasoni, you will meet interpretive guides who talk about the Mi'kmaq history and culture through stories, music and demonstrations. These guides will also showcase their knowledge of medicinal plants, herbs, and how to construct a wigwam. Reservations recommended.

  5. Celtic Music Interpretive Centre: Designated the "Official Celtic Music Centre of Nova Scotia and the Official Cultural Archives for the County of Inverness," the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre offers an in-depth look into the history, culture and music of Cape Breton Island in an authentic and lively atmosphere.Open from June 20 to Oct. 15, 2023, the centre is located in Judique along Route 19 (The Ceilidh Trail), on the West coast of Cape Breton Island. Just 40 minutes from the Resort.

  6. Eileanan Brèagha Vineyards: Want to stomp some grapes and make wine? Eileanan Brèagha Vineyards is the only estate winery in Cape Breton. The winery is 20 minutes away from the resort and located on a breathtaking 200-acre land in Marble Mountain.After you stomp the grapes, sit down, relax, and sip the 'foots' of your labour. The 2023 season will open on July 1 and ends Sept. 2, 2023.

  7. Ross Ferry Marine Park: Another chance to get out on the water!Located on 9655 Kempt Head Road, this park offers picnics, an outdoor fitness gym, a boat launch, Sunday BBQ, a children's playground, a hiking trail and more. This season opens on May 1 and ends Oct. 31, 2023.

  8. Whycocomagh Provincial Park: Want to get an even better view of Skye River Valley and the Bras d'Or Lakes? Whycocomagh Provincial Park can give you that.Located at 89 Provincial Park Road, Whycocomagh has multiple trails (5.4 km/3.3 miles in total) leading over the lake's horizon. It also has a shower, boat launch, lake access and laundry station to make your hike more convenient.

  9. Orangedale Railway Station Museum: For the train lovers among you, the Orangedale Railway Station Museum is an excellent place to experience an award-winning historic site in the island's oldest ICR railway station, dating back to1886.Starting July 1 and ending Sept. 2, 2023, guests will have the opportunity to see the history of trains and railway artifacts this summer.

  10. Pondville Beach Provincial Park: A 1-km (0.5-miles) long sandy beach, backed by gentle dunes, a large lagoon and a salt marsh. Amenities include a picnic park, parking, change house and vault toilets. Located on Isle Madame 2 km (1.5 mi) off Route 320 through Pondville.
