Golf Guide: Gulf Shores - AL
If great golf, excellent fishing, 32 miles of white beaches along the Gulf of Mexico and inexpensive finger-lickin' good food like gumbo and crayfish grab you, then consider Alabama's Gulf Shores/Orange.
There are more than nine high-caliber courses within 45 minutes of each other designed by big-time architects like Arnold Palmer, Larry Nelson, Bruce Devlin, Jerry Pate, Robert Von Hagge and Earl Stone.
From beachside courses like Kiva Dunes running through sand and wetlands to inland tracks with dramatic terrain, this is a warm-weather golf destination where you can play all year long. Sure it can get steamy in the summer, but Gulf Shores is an ideal fall, winter, and spring destination with temperatures in the 70s and little humidity.
The pace is relaxed, traffic not so bad and there are no strip malls to speak of either. And with the largest deep sea fishing fleet in the country, golfer-anglers will have plenty to talk about besides those long drives.
Many of the hotels are right on the Gulf coast like the upscale condos Turquoise Place where some suites have hot tubs right on the decks.
